For prospective undergraduate university students in the UK, there are a variety of student finance options available to help make the cost of education more affordable. These include tuition fee loans, maintenance loans and grants, bursaries and scholarships, and other financial assistance.
Tuition fee loans are provided by the government to cover any tuition fees students may have to pay for their course. This loan is paid directly to their university or college on their behalf. Maintenance loans are also provided by the government to help with living costs such as accommodation, food and books. In addition, some universities and external organisations offer bursaries and scholarships which provide additional financial support depending on certain criteria such as academic ability or income levels. Finally, there are also other types of financial assistance that can be applied for from charities or trusts.
