What information do you need to provide effective university guidance to your students?

We’ve started work on the next Teachers’ Guide to University brochure, ready for a release at the start of the 2019-20 year.

This follows the 2018 edition (produced in collaboration with HELOA) which included 36 pages of advice for teachers on UCAS applications, what universities look for in applications, the different types of events schools can book for their students, university fees and finance, university offers, the Gatsby benchmarks, university support for parents and much, much, more!

Editorial was provided by colleagues at universities throughout the UK, as well as experts outside of higher education. This included MoneySavingExpert Martin Lewis’s exclusive content on university fees and finance and content from The Student Room about what students studying at university wish they were told about university whilst they were at school!

You can still download the 2018 edition HERE

Enough about last year – what is planned for the new one?

We are busy working on the proposed contents and speaking to university practitioners about editorial opportunities right now. Early thoughts are including up to date information on:

- Building effective university links

- Degree apprenticeships

- International applications

- Introducing the types of university courses

- Introducing university decisions and offers

- Introducing university events for schools

- Option choices

- Personal statements

- Recent sector changes

- The National Collaborative Outreach Programme

- Tips for providing university guidance to parents

- University accommodation

- University fees and finance

- University support with Gatsby Benchmark 7

- University teacher and advisers conferences

- Widening participation and fair access

- Writing university references

Feedback is appreciated on the proposed contents – especially if we are missing something which will have a positive impact on the university guidance you provide to your students.

Additionally, we would love to include a few case studies of how schools and colleges have effectively worked with universities.

Can you please take a moment to complete a three-question survey, to express an interest in taking part – and/or providing your opinion on what we plan to include:

We will keep you in the loop with the progress!
