Full event details

During the session you’ll hear from our Admissions Tutor, Professor Klaus Abels who will give you a brief overview of the courses before diving into a taster lecture given by Dr Andrew Lamont. During the lecture, you’ll explore some of the strategies linguists use to expose the hidden structure underlying spoken utterances and get a top level overview of how complex they can be. Andrew will also discuss how the unintuitive oddities about our languages are the bread and butter of linguistics, which works to make unconscious knowledge conscious.

The courses covered are:

BA Linguistics
BA Linguistics (study abroad)
BSc Experimental Linguistics
BSc Experimental Linguistics (study abroad)

You’ll also have the chance to meet our current undergraduate students from across both linguistics courses and join a Q&A with them and our staff—perfect for asking questions about your preferred course and student life.
