UCL East Writing and Talking Club will hone your skills in both areas through a broad programme of exciting activities.
Delivered by UCL experts and creative professionals, this fun and inclusive club will give you the chance to try out a wide range of forms of written and spoken expression. You’ll learn how to think creatively, work with others and express ideas through words, sounds, performance and more.
Try your hand at creative writing and public speaking. Learn about how to use language for impact, express yourself in poetry and performance and get inspired by writing and speech from different times and places.
The club is held weekly during term time, at UCL’s Marshgate building on the Olympic Park in Stratford, London. You’ll get to experience our campus in your sessions as you gain insights into some of the ways that writing and talking happen at UCL.
This club is open to young people in Years 9 and 10 (as of September 2026), who live or go to school in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Barking and Dagenham.

The club runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays during term time. The club will start on 9 January 2027 and run until July 2027. Full session dates will be confirmed in writing on acceptance to the Club.
