In 2024, UCAS reported an increase in the number of students using Clearing to secure a university place. However, Clearing is no longer just for those who don’t receive an offer on results day. Many students now use Clearing when:
· They achieve higher grades than expected and want to explore courses they didn’t initially apply for
· They change their mind about the university or course they want to pursue
· They didn’t apply during the main UCAS cycle but have since decided to attend university that year
We understand how important it is to provide clear information, advice, and guidance so that students can feel empowered to navigate the Confirmation and Clearing processes and make the best decision for themselves—whatever happens on results day.
Online Webinars for Teachers and Advisers
City St George’s, University of London, is hosting online Clearing information events specifically for teachers and advisers. These events will be led by the Schools Liaison Teams at Tooting (formerly St George’s) and Clerkenwell (formerly City), and will include:
· An overview of how Confirmation works
· An overview of the UCAS Clearing process and how it differs from the main application cycle
· Key dates and terminology
· How Clearing works for courses at City St George’s
· Tips on how to best prepare your students for results day
· A Q&A session with staff involved in Clearing at the Clerkenwell and Tooting campuses
