This event aims to introduce students to the types of modules that take place on the St Mary’s Creative Production BA degree at St Mary’s, and introduces the key aspects of working backstage in a theatre. This event is suitable for first or second year sixth form or college students interested in pursuing a degree or career in creative production industries or theatre.

Timetable
10am – Arrival and introduction
10.30am – Session one - An introduction to lighting design
What are the key skills needed to create lighting designs for live theatre and events? This session is designed to introduce students to university level study in the Creative Arts and encourage students with an interest in Creative Production to develop extended understandings of key principles and skills.

This interactive session will guide you through: principals of rigging, basic introduction to colour, meaning and atmosphere. This session is hands on and may involve working in the dark.

12:30pm – lunch
1.30pm – Tour of facilities and spaces
2pm – Session two - The basics of stage management
The stage manager is often regarded as the person who ties everything together on a successful show or event. Students on this workshop will explore the different tasks and approaches a Stage Manager undertakes to deliver a successful production.

The technical department will lead students through the exploration of: marking out of a space, the prompt book, and show control and communication.

4pm – depart.
