Get Ahead: A Masterclass on Applying to University

We’re excited to announce our third ‘Get Ahead’ masterclass day at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (SMU)! 

This event is perfect for students applying to university this coming January and for learners considering 2025 entry. Year 12s, 13s, level 3 students, and mature learners are all welcome to attend. The day will cover something for everyone, with a range of sessions to help students make an informed and guided decision about their next steps – whether they are planning on applying to SMU, another institution, or are still deciding whether university is the destination for them.

Schedule

09:45: Arrival and Registration

10:00: Welcome to St Mary’s

10:15: ‘Factors to consider when making your university choices’ workshop. 

11:00: Break

11:10: 

• Option A: ‘How to write a great personal statement’ workshop (for students applying to university for a September 2024 start)

• Option B: ‘Why University?’, a student life session with our Student Ambassadors (for students considering applying to university for a September 2025 start)

12:00: Lunch 

12:30: Interactive campus tour with Student Ambassadors: learn about university Student Services

13:30: ‘Everything you need to know about Student Finance’ workshop, including a budgeting activity.  

14:30: Any final questions and depart.

Students are welcome to register independently to attend this day.

If teachers or advisers wish to book a larger cohort, we recommend that learners still register independently so that they receive relevant information prior to the event and to help with attendance marking on the day.
