Event Summary:

For Yr. 12 and 13 students, to introduce the subject area as a realistic option for their undergraduate studies. In the process of the morning students will hear lecturers share insights and discuss the subject area. They will also have the opportunity to meet current undergraduate students.

09:40 Arrival & Registration

10:00 Welcome to Newman University (15 mins)
Students will split into groups, and experience two taster sessions in rotation

10:15 Working with Children Young People and Families (1 hour)
In this session you will be introduced to the main principles of the programme and will be provided with an outline of what you might expect in undertaking a degree in Working with Children, Young People and Families. You will be encouraged to think about and discuss the main characteristics necessary for those wishing to work with children, young people and families in the future, and why it is important to consider a career in working with children, young people and families. There will also be lots of opportunity too for you to ask us any questions.

11:15 Break

11:45 International Social Work (1 hour)
In this session you will be introduced to the international social work programme and how it differs from other social work programmes on offer in the UK. The session will be interactive, and through various activities, you will explore the idea of international social work and what this looks like, and what you could do with a degree in international social work.

12:45 Conclusion and Close (15 mins)

13:00 Lunch* / Depart

An optional 45 minute Campus Tour will bring the day to a close at 13:45

*Students who wish to have lunch on campus are welcome to either bring their own packed lunch or purchase a meal at Newman’s café bar – The Sanctuary (£5 will buy a main meal and dessert). Accompanying staff will be provided with a £5 lunch voucher.
