The guest speakers for this event are Dr Niall Finneran, a Reader in Archaeology at the University of Winchester and Dr Ben Roberts, an Associate Professor at Durham university.

What to expect on an archaeology course and an overview of potential career opportunities
Niall speaks about what you can expect to study on an archaeology course at university, with content being broadly similar across different universities. Additional studies will depend on staff expertise he explains, and he touches on some first year introductory modules you will cover.

He goes on to talk about what you will look at in your second and third years at university, with more focus on themes and excavation work. Niall explains what a dissertation is in your final year at university and how you are able to undertake field work to strengthen this project. He goes on to speak about how you will be assessed on an archaeology course ranging from essays to placements. Finally, he touches on the skills you will gain at university and careers after you graduate.

Application tips and reasons to study archaeology
Ben talks about the application process for university and what an archaeology course looks like. He explains what a personal statement is and what you should include in yours, highlighting how to demonstrate your motivation to admission tutors. He speaks about why you should study archaeology at university and the different kind of topics you can cover. Finally, Ben explains why studying the past matters and how archaeology is applicable to many disciplines.
