The right encouragement and advice can make a huge difference to a young person’s future. As a teacher or advisor, you play a pivotal role. You help your students discover their strengths and talents, you help them see the opportunities available to them, and you help them make the right choices for their ambitions and aspirations. We look to support you doing this through a number of activities, events and initiatives, please find the range of support on offer below.

Information, Advice & Guidance

Understanding what the university has to offer can sometimes be difficult for students. This is particularly the case if they’re the first in their family to consider going to university, or if they haven’t followed the traditional educational path to higher education. Our Schools and Colleges liaison and our team of Bolton student ambassadors visit schools and colleges to talk about what university has to offer from foundation to postgraduate courses.

The University of Greater Manchester offers a range of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) services, from attending HE and career style events at schools and colleges to offering presentations which can be delivered either here at the University of Greater Manchester or at your school or college.

Topics that we can speak to your students about include:
  • The benefits of further education, higher education, and choosing the right course
  • Student funding advice and information
  • University life: accommodation, social activities and what to expect in the first few weeks
  • Setting and achieving personal goals
  • Apprenticeships
  • Applying through UCAS
  • Personal Statement Advice
We can also deliver versions of these talks at Parents Information Evenings, or as drop-in sessions for your students.
