Full event details

According to the last census, 67% of the UK identified as one of; Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist or Sikh. This course is designed to give you an idea of what studying religion at Heythrop involves and why these faiths have such a wide impact. The four sessions will cover the three monotheistic Abrahamic faiths; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. One session will examine other faiths, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism.
The lectures will cover David and Bathsheba in a dramatic Biblical narrative involving power, adultery, guilt and the consequences of temptation. Another will examine Dhikr (Remembering God) in which the heart of the believer is compared to a mirror. Christianity in the Eastern world will be discussed in the light of the recent world events.
It will also be possible to have a tour of campus and to meet and mingle with staff and students from the courses, over the lunch hour. A more detailed programme of the day will be available from our web site.

This taster course is open to year 11 and year 12 students or anyone who is thinking of starting their undergraduate studies in September 2014. No prior knowledge is assumed.
