Join us for a friendly online taster lecture to support your current studies and find out what it might be like to study geography/environmental sciences at university.
Session time: Monday 30 November, 3.45-4.30pm
We know that farming and food production affect our health and the environment in many ways but what makes a food system sustainable?
Traditionally we think about sustainability in social, environmental and economic terms – does this work for food too? How does food sustainability link to food security and food sovereignty? How is the sustainability of our food system affected by the big trends we see in the world today: the retreat from globalization, political upheaval, increased global insecurity and the many environmental challenges we see impacting on climate, biodiversity, soil health and water supply?
This session explores these topics and aims to highlight the themes and trends we should at least be aware of, if we are to understand whether our food system is sustainable or not.
Suitable for: Aged 16+ pre-university students studying, or with a possible interest in studying, Geography, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Global Development and related disciplines. Student groups, and individual students and teachers are very welcome to join us.
