This webinar will introduce an exciting, innovative phenomenon from Latin America: ‘cardboard publishing’. In 2003, in response to economic crisis, a project launched in Argentina that turned waste cardboard into colourful, hand-painted books available at a very low price. This blend of text, visual art and social purpose sparked interest across the continent, and a wide range of community projects have since sprung up, each with its own focus and style. Together, we will explore the creativity, community and care for the environment at the heart of these cardboard publishing projects, and consider what this resourceful movement can teach us about human creativity.
