What if we could design education from scratch today? This thought-provoking webinar explores the purpose of education in the 21st century, questioning what we teach, how we teach it and why. Discover different visions for the future of learning and rethink what a truly successful education system could be.
Is our education system fit for purpose — and is it fair? What should we be teaching children and young people to prepare them for a rapidly changing future? Should we prioritise STEM subjects, or are the Arts and Humanities just as important? What role should schools play in tackling social inequalities and improving society? And should we even have schools in the form we know them today?
This interactive webinar invites you to think critically about some of the biggest questions facing education today. Rather than simply asking how schools work, we’ll explore the more fundamental question of what education is for — and whether we could imagine doing it differently.
Through discussion, debate and some challenging thought experiments, we’ll consider different visions for the future of education and the kinds of knowledge, skills, values and experiences that children and young people might need.
There are no simple answers. Instead, the session is an opportunity to explore different perspectives, question some of the assumptions we often make about education, and develop your own ideas about what a better education system might look like.
If you are interested in education, children and young people, social change, or simply enjoy asking “Why do we do things this way?”, this session will give you a taste of the kinds of questions you might explore when studying Education at university.
