Full event details

Ever wondered why interest rates, inflation or global events seem to affect everything from the price of food to future jobs?

As part of the 2026 Festival of Social Science, academics from Royal Holloway Business School are hosting Connecting the Dots: Finance, Global Events and Everyday Life - an interactive workshop for 15–18-year-olds.

Using animated videos, interactive activities and discussion, the session will bring economics and finance to life, helping young people connect big financial headlines with the choices they make every day.

The workshop will also show that finance is about much more than corporate profit. It can help tackle real-world challenges through financial inclusion, smarter risk management, FinTech innovation and environmental sustainability.

The aim is simple: make finance feel relevant, understandable, useful and give young people the confidence to see how it can shape their lives and the world around them.
