Who knows your health better - you after a ChatGPT deep dive, or your doctor? Explore digital health and how tech is changing healthcare and medical authority.
You visit your GP after a conversation with ChatGPT. You've discussed your symptoms, which you've been living with for weeks, with the app. In fact, you've done such a deep dive into them that, between that and your google searches, you seem to know more about your suspected condition than your doctor, who isn't sure what might be the matter! Who knows more? You, who's been living with these symptoms, and who's done lots of research about them? Or your GP, who went to university to study for years about the human body and biomedicine?
In this taster session, you'll get insights into a class called Digital Health at the University of Sheffield. Students will be introduced to why health is a domain of real importance to the social sciences, and not just a biology or medicine degree. Students will be introduced to issues of expertise, health data sharing and its politics, and how digital technologies do (and do not!) transform how we experience and engage in healthcare.
