Civil and Structural Engineering taster session: Integrating renewable energy into structures

What happens when you put wind turbines between two skyscrapers? In this interactive session, we'll use the Bahrain World Trade Centre to explore how civil engineers understand and work with the flow of air around buildings. You'll be introduced to some fundamental ideas in fluid mechanics and use them to investigate how the shape and arrangement of the towers influence the air flowing towards the turbines. Along the way, we'll see how engineering principles can help us understand the design of real structures and the challenges of incorporating renewable energy into the built environment.
