Have you ever wondered how the criminal justice system works and what skills you need to work there? This sixth form conference will take the skills you have learned in the classroom and apply them to aspects of the criminal justice process. Drawing on our experience of working in the criminal justice sector, we will provide you with a day of interesting, informative and most importantly fun sessions, allowing you to link your learning at school and college to their application within the justice system.

Sessions included:

Forensic Investigation: Crime scene to lab

In this session students will learn from one of our expert staff on the collection of evidence within crime scenes. Once the evidence is collected, then it will be off to the lab to test the evidence to see what we can learn about the crime. Students will discover how forensic evidence is used to link crime scenes, suspects and events together to create a compelling narrative for the court.

Criminal Investigation: Stop and Search - Power, Ethics, and Public Trust

One of the more controversial areas of policing is the power to stop and search the public. This session explores the ethics of stop and search through a contemporary lens.? Through discussion students will explore issues such as law, fairness, bias, respect, and public trust and understand the impact of police decisions in this area.

Applied Criminology: Crime, news and the media

Most of us only experience crime and policing through our exposure to the news and popular culture. In this session, you will learn to apply criminological thought to the creation of the stories that create our fascination with crime. See behind the curtain and understand how news stories are constructed, the impact of our shared love of crime fiction and how representations of policing influence our perception of crime and punishment.

Maximum students: 40
