Full event details

This session will introduce students to the world of research and how we can make it relevant to the things that interest us in our everyday lives. Using examples from real-life research projects, students will explore how common culture can be applied to education and research, before embarking on their own journeys in tying research to their interests outside of formal schooling.

The session will frontload delivery of findings from a real-life research project for the first 15 minutes, before embarking on a scaffolded two-part activity where students will:
1. Identify their interests from beyond the institution.
2. Identify underexplored areas within these interests which may provide opportunities for further study.

This will be followed by a short plenary where students will be able to share their ideas with the group – if they are willing – and leave them with useful prompts for turning their current ideas into a future reality.
