Join Dr Andy White from Heriot-Watt University's maths department and learn how mathematics is shaping the modern world.

This talk will give examples drawn from technology, industry, and nature and will include a mini lecture on optimisation techniques — mathematical methods based on calculus and differentiation — and show how they underpin many of the recent advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
