Tell me more...

This programme will give students the chance to explore different aspects of studying biology at university: working in labs and using high quality equipment to conduct their own experiments, as well as attending lectures from industry experts and students.

Students will get the opportunity to chat about life at university with our current student ambassadors who will be with them for the duration of the programme.

When:

The summer school is FREE to attend and runs as a daytime event across three days; 22, 23 and 24 July 2026.

Where:

The summer school will take place on The University of Salford’s campus. The address is 43 Crescent, Salford M5 4WT.

This is a free, non-residential Summer School designed to support Y12 and FE1 students.

Cost:

Nothing! The summer school is free for students to attend. Food, drink and activity costs are covered. Students may wish to bring a small amount of money with them to go to the shop, but this is not required.

Travel support:

Students are asked to make their own way to and from the summer school each day. Students will be given a bursary for each day they attend the summer school to cover the cost of travel.

Allocation of spaces:

Priority will be given to students within the Greater Manchester area due to this being a non-residential opportunity.

There are 30 places available. We are usually oversubscribed so we encourage students to apply early. If we receive more applications than places, we may have to allocate based on additional Widening Participation criteria.

Finally...

Students will gain confidence in navigating technical spaces, and performing experiments. Trying out the "lab life" for themselves in a supportive environment guided by technicians and experts in the field, is a great way to prepare for their post-18 pathway.

Lab coats are freshly washed and our Bodmer Lab is prepped - see you there!
