This event is free to attend. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and eligible students can also receive a travel bursary to attend the taster day.
As an attendee, you will participate in two hands-on sessions:
Session 1: Techniques of neutralisation
This lecture introduces the concept of techniques of neutralisation. This engaging session illustrates how we teach the theoretical explanations of criminal behaviour and the ways in which individuals justify or rationalise deviant acts.
Session 2: Crimes of the Powerful: When Knowledge Becomes a Victim
This taster session explores how powerful individuals, corporations, and institutions can cause harm not only through illegal or unethical actions, but also by shaping, hiding, or distorting knowledge. We will examine how evidence can be suppressed, public understanding manipulated, and certain voices excluded, asking who gets to define “truth” when power is involved.
This taster day will be held at our Whiteknights campus and will run from approximately 10:00 – 15:00 (16:00 with optional campus tour) allowing you time to really immerse yourself in the subject and relevant department. More information will be made available following registration.
