The University of East London’s Medicine Summer School 2026, delivered in partnership with the NHS North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT), is a FREE five-day non-residential summer school designed for aspiring medical students.

It takes place from 27th July to 31st July 2026 at UEL Stratford Campus and NHS North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT), giving students the opportunity to explore careers in medicine through academic and practical learning.

The summer school also encourages applications from students from underrepresented backgrounds, helping widen access to medical education and healthcare careers. Students must be aged 17 by the time they undertake the work experience placement in July.

What students will experience throughout the programme:

  • Gain hands-on NHS clinical experience by shadowing doctors and observing patient care
  • Develop an understanding of clinical skills and medical simulation environments
  • Explore medical student life and what it is like to study medicine at university
  • Guidance on interview preparation for medical school
  • Experience community clinical environments within the NHS
  • Take part in engaging sessions led by academics and healthcare professionals
  • Build confidence, communication skills, and knowledge of careers in medicine and healthcare

Schools are invited to identify one to two students to apply for this unique opportunity, helping aspiring healthcare professionals take an important step towards a future career in medicine.
