"Do we still need the NHS?" - Sociology AberWorkshop
The sociology of health is a subfield of sociology, and is central to key debates about inequality in society. Research in this field provides evidence that those who are more deprived and have less resources, such as, working class and minority ethnic groups, or older and disabled people (and combinations of these identities) are less able to navigate the fragmented and underfunded health system in the UK. This talk explores alternatives to the NHS in other countries, to discuss whether we still need the NHS and the possible impact that paying for care would have on these groups’ health and wellbeing.
AberWorkshops are designed to be interactive and thought-provoking, providing valuable insight into university study and subject pathways while encouraging critical thinking and discussion.
