In this Global Business session, Dr Tammi Sinha, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Senior Lecturer in Operations Management in the Surrey Business School, will run an interactive talk for students on Managing Global Supply Chains in a Time of Conflict & Uncertainty.
How do distant (and not so distant) conflicts end up affecting the price of your lunch or the cost of charging your phone? This session explores the high-stakes connections between global conflict and the essential systems we rely on every day.
We will explore how modern warfare isn’t just fought on battlefields but through supply chains, where food and energy are often used to exert political pressure. Using the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2026, we’ll consider why and how conflict and geopolitical tensions have surged to the top of the World Economic Forum’s global risk register. You’ll learn how a disruption in a single shipping lane or a gas pipeline can trigger a domino effect, leading to inflation, scarcity, and even social unrest thousands of miles away.
Join us to decode the complex web of 2026’s geopolitical landscape and discover what it means for Business in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) environment. How do we build resilience, adaptability and the ability to mitigate, AND build bridges in all senses of the word?
