University event offered by University of East Anglia
Short Session Delivered online
Session time: Wednesday 3 December, 4.00-4.45pm
We will explore how anime reflects Japanese culture—school life, food, traditions, and values. But that’s not all! We will dive into the hidden world of subtitles. Do English subtitles really match what the characters are saying in Japanese? You may be surprised at the differences!
Through the session, you will discover how simple words like “I” and “brother” carry meanings that subtitles cannot fully capture. And you can learn why studying Japanese can open a whole new way of experiencing your favourite shows.
Suitable for: All aged 16+ pre-university students with either an interest in Anime or the study of Japanese language and culture, or both! Student groups as well as students and teachers joining individually are very welcome.
