BBC Verify is a specialist division of BBC News made up of journalists who use verification tools to check the accuracy of information, images, and videos – helping to prevent the spread of misinformation. It focuses on fact-checking, transparency, and clearly showing the sources behind the facts, alongside regular news reporting.

Whether you’re scrolling TikTok, watching the news, or deep into your group chat debates, this event will teach you how to spot the truth, challenge the bias, and become a smarter digital citizen.

Students will take part in hands-on workshops that highlight the various types of journalism taught here at Sunderland, including sessions led by BBC Verify. Some workshops will be streamed live into our newly refurbished, state-of-the-art cinema. Attendees will also have the chance to ask our graduates about their journalism training and current careers.

This event is open to Year 12 and 13 students who are interested in a career in journalism, media or writing.
