Full event details

Public policies define “who gets what, when, how”. As such, they have (in)direct impact on citizens and other policy targets. In this masterclass with SOAS academic staff, participants will look at how policies are designed, the policy process and which instruments governments use to address policy problems.

During the masterclass, you will explore key questions such as:

What is public policymaking and what are the stages of the policy process?
What are the key instruments of government and how do they relate to each other?
How are policies designed and how do they impact policy targets?

The first part of the masterclass will focus on defining public policy, examining the policy process, analysing policy instruments, and making sense of policy design. The second part of the masterclass is based on a reflective activity which aims to develop policy solutions to a contemporary problem in the UK.

On Campus Masterclasses are subject based and are three hours long. They consist of a topic-based lecture and interactive activity, led by a SOAS academic. There is also a campus tour and a workshop on Higher Education led by Student Ambassadors.
