Session time: Monday 24 June, 12.45-13.30

In this interactive session, we invite participants to discuss with us:

  • different types of democracy
  • signs of a global democratic recession since 2006
  • the recent rise of far-right populism
  • the role of the media in safeguarding or weakening democracy
  • why some social scientists are becoming increasingly worried about the state of democracy in the UK

There will be an opportunity for further Q&A at the end of the session.

Suitable for: Key Stage 5 (and equivalent). Students may be studying Politics, Geography or Sociology, for example, but they may also be joining because they have a more general interest in the topic and in the 2024 elections. In addition, we welcome all those with a potential interest in studying Global Development and related disciplines at university. Students can join in groups with their teachers or as individual participants.
