Full event details

The Summer School is aimed at students who are *underrepresented in higher education, aged 16–18-year-olds (years 12–13) in level 3 of study. The Summer School is FREE to attend and will run from Tuesday 9th July to Friday 12th July from 9.30am to 3pm at the University of East London’s Docklands campus.

In celebration of the Year of Science, this year’s summer school will lift the lid and challenge the myths around science to ignite students curiosity and inspire  discovery. Students will be challenged to work to an industry-led brief and to ‘think outside the box’ and immerse themselves in the worlds of Technology, Sustainability, and the Human Mind. Our core programme will offer insights into the ultimate HE experiences, such as:

Subject degree tasters: Students will be challenged to work on an industry-led brief, engaging in degree subject tasters and working actively on a project that will be delivered at the end of the summer school.

Careers - First: Our expert Careers and Student Enterprise team will run interactive career workshops from future planning to future technology, Career Mixers, and an industry panel.

Personal Development: Students will participate in daily workshops to develop a growth mindset, problem-solving skills, goal setting, leadership skills, collaborative working, and more.

HE Ready: The Schools & Colleges team, along with the student ambassadors, will run a range of workshops and activities to support HE planning, next steps, and student life.

Places are limited and priority will be given to our local sixth forms, colleges, and students who meet some of our *eligibility criteria as stated below:

·       Currently studying at a local college or sixth form

·       Are or have been in care.

·       Have a disability, learning difficulty, or long-term physical or mental health condition.

·       From a white working-class background

·       From a black and Asian ethnic minority group
