Could I be an Occupational Therapist?

During the visit, students will spend the first half of the session discussing the personal and academic skills and competencies to become an occupational therapist. They'll then participate in a practical session where they’ll take part in an everyday activity and look at it through the eyes of an occupational therapist.  

What's happening:  

Students will work with an academic who has been an occupational therapist in practice. The academic will explain the role of the occupational therapist in a variety of settings and will help prospective students know what skills and personal attributes make a good applicant and a good occupational therapist.

Current students will be available to chat with about their experiences and a sample timetable will be provided to show what a week in the life of an occupational therapy student looks like. The sessions will take place in our teaching labs, where students can try out the equipment and facilities. This should create a lively, engaging, and informal atmosphere in which to learn.   

Why this matters:  

This approach will help students to focus on occupational therapy as a career and how to develop and express the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that are looked for at interview for the course.
