University event offered by University of East Anglia
Short Session Delivered online
Session time: Thursday 25 April, 09.05-09.50
People are living longer, happier and healthier lives than ever before. We have made tremendous headway with improving people’s lives, the last few decades have seen rampant inclusive economic growth but poverty has been pervasive in many countries across the globe. The question is why? In this day and age with rising food prices and energy costs, geopolitical challenges such as the crisis in Gaza, and war in Sudan, the gap between the rich and the poor seems to widen with rising inequalities.
In this session we will discuss these challenges and take a closer look at the empirical evidence documenting long term economic growth. We will also touch on income inequalities and discuss the role policymakers can play by putting appropriate social policies in place to tackle poverty and inequality.
Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying Economics and Geography. It will also be relevant for Politics, Sociology and students with a more general interest in this topic.
