Session time: Thursday 22 June, 11.10-11.55

In this Chemistry session, Dr Chris Richards, Reader in Organic Chemistry in the School of Chemistry at UEA, will present Chirality and Stereochemistry  – An Introduction with Model Building.

Through an interactive process in which students have access to a visualisation web application, we will ‘build’ molecules of increasing complexity to illustrate chirality/stereochemistry. We will highlight some of the important consequences of stereochemistry focusing in particular on the building-blocks of life, and on the development of pharmaceuticals for the treatment of disease.

The session will develop skills and approaches to support students in their Chemistry studies and future aspirations.

Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying, or with a possible interest in studying, Chemistry and related disciplines.
