The Language of Fiction:

This session will focus on the language of literary fiction, with a particular focus on Jane Austen’s novels. We will consider which tools and techniques from language and linguistics we can use to analyse literary texts, and apply them to specific passages from Austen. We will think about what an examination of literary language can add to our understanding of the text, and its effect on readers. You'll also have the chance to hear about what studying the language of literature at university is like, our degree programme here at Sheffield, and the types of careers our students go on to have.
