We invite you to join us for an insight into our Food Science, Food Safety and Nutrition and Health courses. Students will take part in the identification of various commonly eaten and ‘emerging’ exotic foods. The nutritional quality of these foods will be evaluated and compared to recommended daily intakes based on UK dietary guidelines. Students will also have the opportunity to analyse foods that are formulated with the aim of preventing diet-related diseases. The technological challenges that are related to the design of such foods in terms of the sensorial and textural properties will be discussed. Students will also learn about the consequences of poor food safety and why it is important that we have food safety inspectors/investigators with legal powers to tackle these everyday problems in the food industry.
