University event offered by Coventry University
Short Session Minimum students: 5
How do nations deal with a past that weighs heavily on their memory, and what are the implications of this past for a nation’s identity? This session looks at post-war Germany as a case study. Reviled and ostracised after 12 years of Nazi atrocities, how did this nation find its way back into the international community? Divided by the Cold War, and after unification in 1990, also having to deal with a communist past, how did Germany forge a new identity for itself? This talk charts the nation’s route from near amnesia to taking on responsibility for its contested past.
