Our society has always recognised exceptional individuals and experts, such as Serena Williams, whose tennis ball serves reach above 105mph, or radiologists that take a fraction of a second to identify suspicious tissue in complex X-ray images. But what is the cognitive mechanism - or how a person interprets, evaluates, and acts upon information - that enables this superhuman performance?

Join Dr Nemanja Vaci (Lecturer in the Department of Psychology and expert in the psychology of skill development) for this lecture exploring how people can develop outstanding levels of performance in sports, arts and science; what are the factors that enable this, and how can the same mechanisms work against them?

There will be plenty of opportunities to chat with Nemanja, hearing more about this research, and taking part in an experiment which underpins this area of study. There will also be a chance for you to find out more about being a psychology student at the University of Sheffield, and where a degree in psychology can take you. You will hear from some of our current students and a member of our admissions team, who will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about studying psychology at university.
