Working and studying in environment and development: drawing examples from the Caribbean, Pacific and UK
Dr Johanna Forster is an environmental social scientist, with expertise in interdisciplinary research that incorporates development issues around marine and coastal resource management, climate change and environmental hazards. She has applied her research focus to international and UK-based research on governance of coastal and marine resources and food security, and cultural and historical influences on contemporary hazards, risk and exposure; and more recently to Greenhouse Gas Reduction technologies in the UK. Her work combines ecological and social perspectives, quantitative and qualitative approaches, and she has undertaken extensive field-based research in the Caribbean and Pacific regions, and the UK. She teaches students on topics including climate change science and policy, marine and coastal resource use, and methods and approaches for practical environment and development work.
