Recent currents of migration have fuelled daily topics in the international press, but this is a subject that also attracted many photographers keen to challenge media representations of migration.

This talk looks at a series of photographs which document La Jungle near Calais and settlements in the centre of Paris where several photographers captured traces of migrants in the last 20 years.

Looking in detail at the work of Jacqueline Salmon, Mathieu Pernot and Eliza Larvego, we will question to what extent the artistic productions studied not only transcend disciplines, but also create a historical and critical text that reinscribes the story of the refugees within a neo-colonial and global context in which France plays a major role.
