Holocaust Memorial Day - Archaeologist Reflections (Post 16)

The 27th January is Holocaust Memorial Day. This provides an opportunity to explore the relevance of archaeological and historical research to modern issues of remembrance and tolerance, through personal reflections of a Holocaust archaeologist working on projects of this nature. The impact on society, affected communities, and the personal impacts are all illustrated. The impact of continuing to research and present the effects of the Holocaust cannot be underestimated. The further away we move from the events the more disconnected we feel both individually and as a society. Across Europe, sites of the Holocaust are numerous, yet many people are unsure of their existence, meaning, and significance. Each of these sites contains individual stories which, when told, can illustrate direct relevance to our contemporary society.

This Post 16 workshop will highlight some of these sites, and experiences, and provide the opportunity for discussion and contemplation of this difficult subject.
