In this talk, I’ll explore why studying English language and literature is such a good idea. We’ll look at how studying different kinds of texts allows us to develop reading skills and think about why this is so important. We’ll look at how writers position us to interpret meanings in different ways and how English can help us take a critical stance. And we’ll think about the role of literature in our everyday lives and how reading fiction can be beneficial both academically and personally. The talk will introduce you to a range of ideas that are covered on university undergraduate programmes.
