The list of gemstones is longer than most people realise, but how do you tell the difference between ones that are rare and valuable, and ones that are more common, or even fakes? Combining hands-on practice with scientific understanding, students will become a coloured-stone investigator for the day – following clues to find the real ‘jewel in the crown’

Our new Explore... series offers students in years 11, 12 and 13 a taste of degree level study on campus. With many events offering the chance to experience several different workshops over the course of one day, this unique opportunity encourages students to broaden their understanding of the different courses available in each area.
