Medicinal chemistry

The Medicinal Chemistry Master class provides an exciting opportunity to work alongside some of our expert medicinal chemistry PhD students and faculty members to determine the active ingredient of a common commercially available medicine. In this practical, hands on event, you will be provided with a batch of commercial medicine tablets and will isolate the physiologically active organic compound from them. Once you have isolated the active ingredient (i.e. the drug molecule) you will perform a series of analytical and spectroscopic tests to determine the structure of the compound.
