Computer Coding and Programming Robot Workshop (Year 6) - Tuesday 5th June 9.15am - 2.30pm

Organised jointly by Aston University and top employers in the West Midlands, our employer engagement activities allow students to access the professions that have shaped our city and inspire them as to how they too can become part of this ever growing success. Each event is designed to increase students' understanding of the range of employment opportunities available to them in the region and the essential soft skills which employers look for in the world of work. Some events will take place at the company’s offices in the West Midlands, allowing students a once in a life time opportunity to gain inside perspective and careers advice from industry experts.

This event will inspire a future generation of programmers by giving them a unique opportunity to develop their computer programming skills in an exciting Robot Control Workshop. This session will allow pupils to investigate control technology by using programmable robots and specialist computer software to complete a series of challenging tasks. Throughout the workshop learners will be challenged to navigate a course in as few instructions as possible, then incorporate the use of sensors into their programmes to allow the robots to take in information from the world around them. These challenges can all be set to meet the wide range of abilities in any class.Throughout the day pupils will also be given the opportunity to explore the Think Tank; Birmingham’s award winning museum that celebrates the city’s historical success and future innovation through over 200 hands-on science and technology displays.
