This session will help you understand the roots of the current refugee crisis in Europe, specifically how conflict and lack of democracy in the Middle East and Horn of Africa are causing so many Syrians, Eritreans, Iraqis and others to flee war and persecution.

We will be looking at what can be done to make those countries safer, at what happens to these refugees, the responses of receiving countries and their obligations under international law to protect these vulnerable people.

This interactive session will draw on their Department’s interdisciplinary expertise.
