Making a Scene - Theatre Design Taster day

Students in their first year of sixth form and college are invited to join our team of designers, directors, writers, puppeteers, mask makers and theatre technicians to experience what theatre design degrees can offer.

Theatre is a collaboration between many different kinds of artist, maker, performer and technician. Theatre designers have a crucial role in bringing performances and narratives to life, whether in a theatre building or in other spaces.

Try out model making for set design, explore how masks, puppets and objects can be used to create sophisticated theatre for a range of different audiences, create an instant costume, experiment with storyboarding for film and TV and see how the resources of our large Studio Theatre can be used for performance and learning.

Teachers are also encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to network with NTU staff over lunch.

This event is open to group bookings – please note that there will be a limit of 10 students per group.

*Teachers booking groups on please be aware of the following: We are required to target learners who are from disadvantaged backgrounds and statistically less likely to progress on to further and higher education. We are required to ensure that at least 66% of the learners who engage in our activities meet one or more of these criteria. These include learners who:
reside in deprived neighbourhoods, where progression rates to higher education are low
are from low socio-economic backgrounds
are currently in receipt of a post-16 bursary
are in receipt of free school meals
are currently looked-after / in care or have recently left care
have a disability
post-16 students on vocational qualifications in state funded institutions (who are doing no more than one standard A-level)
mature students (those on an Access course and / or those over 21-years-old).
