Love is in the air but how did soldiers in World War One, 100 years ago, express their love to their Valentines and for their home and country. This lecture will focus on the prose and poetry of the soldier-poets who fought in the trenches. These works will be compared to modern novels such as Sebastian Faulk's Birdsong and A Long Long Way by Sebastian Barry. Extracts from the texts will be provided, so no previous knowledge is required. Dr Deirdre O'Byrne, Lecturer in English.

Registration and light refreshments will be available from 4.30pm and the lecture will run from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. Staff and students will be on hand throughout the event to answer any questions you might have about studying at or applying to Loughborough.
