Year 12 Women in Physics Taster Day

The STEM event will start with an interactive lecture entitled “Careers in physics for women: How to have a successful career in physics” in which the students will have the opportunity to learn more about the different careers that stem from physics and explore their own inclinations under the guidance of a professional female physicists.

The lecture will be followed by a “hands-on” session where the students will perform physics experiments under the supervision of undergraduate Applied Physics students. In the last part of the STEM event the students will be able to answer questions to female Applied Physics students and professional female physicists.

Timetable:

10:30 Introductory talk: “Careers in Physics for women: How to have a successful and rewarding career” – Dr Elisabetta Canetta (Applied Physics team)

11:00 Hands-on experiments in Physics – Staff and students of Applied Physics (girls will be able to talk to physics students, in particular female physics students)

12:30 Lunch

13:00 Round Table/Q&A session: “I am a female physicist: Is there space for me in the scientific world?”– Girls will ask questions to female physicists about their careers and why they chose to become physicists (Dr Elisabetta Canetta and female physics students)
13:30 Wrap up
13:45 Departure
