In the light of the Mid-Staffordshire case, this lecture examines the lessons that can be learned, with particular emphasis on a patient-led rather than statistic-led focus. We will develop ideas around key issues such as the impact of organisational culture and the need for whole system communication and focus. Furthermore, we will explore the notion of transformational change and the need for a different leadership approach.
