This day-long course will give you an introduction to studying English at University by exploring new ways of approaching an author which whom many of you will already be very familiar: Shakespeare. One of the most vibrant English departments on the country, Royal Holloway not only offers Single Honours undergraduate courses in English, it also offers very popular Joint Honours courses eg. English and Drama, English and Film, English and Creative Writing, English and History, English and Modern Languages: Shakespeare is a key figure in all these courses.
At the Taster day you will gain hands-on experience of lectures, seminars and workshops delivered by the highly respected Shakespeareans who work at Royal Holloway. You will think about the texts; you will explore Shakespeare in practice and the journey from page to stage; you will learn how Shakespeare’s plays work with Renaissance ideas on science and the body and we will all discuss why it is that so many people still read, watch and produce Shakespeare in the twenty-first century.
